HELIJET 1B from the 1965 TV Series Thunderbirds Created by Gerry Anderson
Helijets were a unique invention for Thunderbids - the futuristic equivalent of Helicopters today. There were several different types and sizes featured in several episodes, This one is seen in ‘City of Fire’ and belongs to a TV News Service who are covering the giant Thompson Tower.
The broadcaster refers to the tower as being ‘half a mile wide and two miles deep’. This could be justified as some sort of publicity blurb as the Tower is much thinner than that. They say the Helijet is flying at 3000 feet and seems to be at the top of the Tower. which would make it more like ½ mile high… above ground. Maybe the other mile and a half is below ground. They could certainly explain the difficulty International Rescue face in getting to the family trapped underground.
I love the shot where you first see the Tower standing up above the clouds. It really sets the scene. Excellent!
