Hover Bed – from ‘Thunderbirds‘ created by Gerry Anderson
The Hover Bed is a single person hovercraft that is used to rescue Alan Tracy and Grandma from the bridge at San Miguel. Alan is standing and and Grandma is seated on part of the girder work above the road. Exhausted and feint from the heat they almost fall, but Virgil positions the Hover Bed directly beneath them. The machine produces a cushion of air acting like a safety net. It is International Rescue, so why use a safety net when you can have a special machine to do the job instead?
We get a great sense of the size of Thunderbird 2 when this vehicle as well as Brains’ Neutraliser tractor exit the Pod.
This would be a small kit even in 1/32nd scale in bright red plastic. That would come with the figures of Virgil and Grandma. About 4” long.
This vehicle was constructed in its entirety as a puppet scale prop, as well as a miniature. As such it was most likely designed by Reg Hill
