LUNAR PROBE 4
From the 1965 TV series ‘Thunderbirds’ created by Gerry Anderson
This is the rocket featured in the painting in the Tracy Lounge. The painting that Virgil uses to access Thunderbird 2. In the context of the show, Jeff Tracy was an astronaut and one of the first men on the moon. It is suggested in ‘Trapped in the Sky’ that this painting is Jeff’s moon mission, or one of his moon missions. Other rockets featured in the series are called ‘Sunprobe’ and the ‘Martian Space Probe’. There is a ‘4’ on the side, so it seems logical this would be called Lunar Probe 4.
The design of the ship is clearly based on the Atlas missile and Mercury and Gemini rockets flown by Alan Shephard and John Glenn.
1/144th scale is the same as the other Airfix ‘space’ kits. The model would be about 10” tall. possibly silver or white plastic.
