SHADO INTERCEPTOR - from the 1970 TV Series ‘UFO’ created by Gerry Anderson

SHADO had a moon base which was their front line of defence. This was staffed by an all female crew with purple hair. There were three Space Interceptors on permanent standby. Housed in hollowed out craters the spaceships each carried a single, high yield missile. Moonbase provided coordinates for the necessary firing of the missiles in order to destroy any approaching UFO. In order to best service the weekly storylines, the Interceptors would miss their target and the UFOs would make it through to Earth.

The Interceptors were designed by the series’ visual effects supervisor and director Derek Meddings and looked great. A plastic model kit would be ideal in 1/72nd, and would be molded in white plastic.
