Explosives Truck from the 1968 TV Series ‘JOE 90’ created by Gerry Anderson
If you have seen the Geery Anderson TV Series JOE 90, you will likely remember the episode where Joe has to lead a convoy of 3 rugged Army trucks across a hazardous mountain range. The episode ‘Colonel Maclaine’ is clearly inspired by the ‘The Wages of Fear’, and it is one of the series’ best.
The scene of the trucks winching themsleves up a steep incline is pure Gerry Anderson. Fascinating visual storytelling with fantastic hardware in a tense and esciting situation! The trucks in this episode were designed by Mike Trim, who designed most of the vehicles and aircraft for the series.
The models were about 2 feet in length and made use of wheels from a large toy truck available at the time; the Topper Toys Johnny Express Remote Control Tractor Trailer.
The vehicles appaer with modifications and new paintwork, in the epsiodes ‘Breakout’, ‘The Race’ as well as in ‘The Secret Service’ epsidoe ‘School for Spies’.
.As a kit in 1/32nd it would be approximately 1 foot long and I imagine it would be in the classic army green plastic used for many of the Airfix military vehicle kit.
Designed by Mike Trim
