X-20’s SUB - from ‘the 1964 TV Series ‘Stingray’ - produced by Gerry Anderson

Stingray is a Supermarionation TV show that follows the adventures of Troy Tempest, captain of the WASP super-sub Stingray. Stingray would encounter new races each week, but a recurring adversary was Titan, and his mysterious surface agent X-20. X20 was called upon to try out numerous schemes to defeat the WASPs . He had a personal submarine which he used to travel from his base on the Island of Lamoy to the various undersea locations including Titan’s kingdom of Titanica.

The ship was basically a single seat craft with no memorable features and no weaponry. I don’t recall seeing it engaging in any sort of action … although I could be wrong there. Most of X-20 s exploits involved disguises and plans to infiltrate Marineville.

This model was made from a commercially available model kit of the Bell X5. 1/48th scale. The wings and tail planes were removed (or rather not attached) and extra fins and details added.  It’s a quirky little ship and I don’t think it is ever named, so I’ve called the kit X-20’s Sub. II imagine a kit of of this ship wold have to be a suitably unusual colour. Possibly gold? or pink?

The painting shows Titanica in the background, so presumably X-20 has just met with Titan and is about to embark on new mission. Stand by for Action!
