ORIGINAL GREEBLIE (Kit Bashing)

Spaceships seen in Sci-Fi Movies and TV shows, are often covered in intrIcate details. These are known as 'Greeblies' and are created through the skillful application of small parts from a variety of plastic model kits. This technique is known as 'Kit Bashing' and was developed by Derek Meddings’ Visual Effects team on the Gerry Anderson TV Series, in particular 'Thunderbirds'. The spaceships seen in '2001:A Space Odyssey' adopted this process and later on 'Star Wars', where it was established as the norm and many more films and televsion shows use this technique. Apparently George Lucas coined the word ‘Greeblie’ duing the makiing of ‘Star Wars’.

This particular part was used extensively on ‘Thunderbirds’ - aircraft, land vehicles, ships, buildings, spaceships, ships, submarines etc - and comes from the Airfix Girder Bridge kit.

So for me, this is the original Greeblie.

Take a look a his vioabout ‘The Girder Bridge’.
