General Purpose Van From the 1965 TV series ‘Thunderbirds’ created by Gerry Anderson

This utilitarian van is very popular in the’ Thunderbirds’ world and The Hood uses one to blend in with everyday life while carrying out clandestine operations. The many instances where we see this type of van help to give the show a believable world.

The Hood makes use of one as North Pole Cleaning Company and a Telecommunications Repair van in ‘Edge of Impact’. I have painted this driving along an imaginary service road just outside London Airport, with two videophone or ‘photovision’ booths nearby. This is inspired by scenes from ‘Edge of Impact’ and ‘Trapped in the Sky’. One of these vans can be seen also in ‘The Mighty Atom’, ‘Day of Disaster’, ‘Operation Crash-Dive’, ‘The Imposters’ and ‘Alias Mr Hackenbacker’.

This version is outfitted with a TV Camera and is featured in ‘Terror in New York City’ and can be seen in ‘Day of Disaster’ covering the transportation of the Martian Space Probe rocket.

This model appears to be scratch built, although the chassis is likely form a large scale toy car.
