SKYBASE
This is a futuristic flying aircraft carrier. Maybe 1000ft long. I designed this in 1981 for a Super8 / Kodachrome 40 film I made with my friend David Hicks. It was heavily influenced by Cloudbase from 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons' (1967). I was only vaguely aware of the Shield Heli-carrier from the Marvel Comics (1965).
The original design was a cardboard model, about 3 feet long - which used some discarded cigarette packets in its design. This is recent painting that add some finesse and styling that was not present on the model seen in the film.
I thought a night-tine view would make a nice change. I had in mind those pictures you see of oil rigs out at sea at night.
